NICU Day 4

Jimmy is off of the ventilator! They put him on a CPAP this morning:) His feeds have increased to 10mL and IV was decreased last night to 5.5mL per hour. He had a full day of bili lights yesterday, but is off them today since his bilirubin levels have normalized. They called me over to the NICU this morning for some kangaroo care (where baby stays warm on mom or dad's skin, rather than in the incubator) because he was grumpy and unsettled. He was much better after an hour of skin-to-skin contact. He seems more comfortable with his breathing today, despite the contraption on his face. In a few more days, we're hoping he'll be down to just a nasal cannula for oxygen.

Another plus to the CPAP machine is that Jimmy's airway is clear and we can now hear his little voice :)

Evelyn was able to come back to his bed in the NICU last night to say hello. She did very well. She proudly announced that he was her baby brother and said "aww, cute!" She did ask if he was hurt, which broke my heart a little (ok, a lot), but we assured her that he was OK.

Tonight, when she came by, I was doing a second round of kangaroo care with Jimmy. She held out her arms and asked, "hold him?" So far, she's doing alright at this big sister thing :)
