Tummy Time

Since babies spend so much time on their backs because of SIDS concerns anymore, pediatricians, physical therapists, and other people concerned with baby development highly recommend giving babies lots of time on their belly when they're awake and you're nearby. So far, Evelyn isn't a huge fan. As long as she's not screaming or trying to smother her face in the floor, I let her stay on her belly. Partially because I assume that, if she gets angry enough, she'll start picking her head up or rolling over.

Well, on Wednesday she threw me for a loop. I put her down propped up on the boppy, and she lifted her head up and gave me a bunch of really goofy smiles. And this lasted for several minutes, which is amazing given that babies can go from zero to doomsday and back within a matter of seconds when they want to. Usually she just lays there looking sad and sucking on her fingers.

And when I gave her tummy time last night, we were flat on the floor. She picked her head up, squealed, and threw her head over to one side, which resulted in her flopping back over onto her back. She looked very surprised. I didn't have a camera handy, but she did it several times. We caught a short video this morning:)

Tim says she's just throwing her head to the side and flopping over, but I'm calling it rolling because she does it every time we put her down on her belly now :P

In other news, we got a card from the White House congratulating us on Evelyn's birth, signed by the President and the First Lady:)

And Evelyn posed for a picture for Pam's birthday this morning:) Happy Birthday, Aunt Pam!!
