So the weather ruined half our plans for this weekend:P Good thing Apple Harvest is 2 weeks long, because I don't think it would have been good to spend 2 days in a row outside in cold, rainy weather. And, since it was rainy and wet out, I just left the camera in the car :-/
We stopped at Mom's on Saturday morning and picked up some of my stuff from her house (I'm sure she'll find more) and helped her start updating her resume. Then we headed off to Ship for homecoming. We missed the pre-game show and kickoff, but made it in time for the first touchdown, which was only 4 minutes into the game. They ended up winning 49-7 over Kutztown, who was ranked 12th in the nation and undefeated before meeting the Raiders:) We watched the first half and then wandered down to the Union Building to get some lunch and get out of the rain. The Union building has been under construction for the last couple of years and just re-opened to students and the public. They did a major expansion, added new eating areas, and made an entire outdoor amphitheater where there used to be an open green area. We had trouble telling where our old CUB ended and the new one began. A lot of the other buildings on campus are getting a facelift as well. The Humanities building was just finished, the Art Center was torn down and totally rebuilt, and the Franklin Science center (where I spent most of my time) is next. The dining halls have all been modernized (they still had a bit of a 70's feel to them when I went there), and the Rec Center they broke ground on our senior year is totally complete. Nothing looks the same, and I've only been gone for 4 years!
After the game, we went out for dinner with some of my friends from college at Applebees, then headed home. Matt and Susie stayed with us Saturday night, and Gerry and Emily came over for the evening. It was good to see some old friends:)
Yesterday was a pretty quiet day. Since we weren't braving the weather to go to Apple Harvest, we slept in a bit, took our time getting up and about, and then went out for brunch at the Mt Joy Diner, which was much better than the E-town Diner (they forgot to bring us forks!!), then saw Matt and Susie off.
We had been noticing some icky residue on our dishes since we switched to our new box of dishwasher detergent (they don't put phosphates in it anymore and that's what kills limescale--I imagine a lot of people are upset about it, especially if they have really nice plates or glasses. The people who make the detergent really should have come up with a phosphate-free formula that works before marketing it. If you call and complain, they just send you coupons for more of their product that doesn't work--grr). So we went to Wal-Mart and picked up some lemon-juice based limescale remover and added it to the regular detergent, and that worked nicely. We also got some cider (courtesy of Mussleman's in Biglerville!), so I heated that up with some cinnamon and we both had a glass or two after dinner last night:)
We don't have any major plans for the next few days, so we'll just be getting things done around the house, I guess. As long as it's not raining, we're going to try to take walks in the evenings. And if we have a few days of sun in a row, like the forecast is calling for, we might actually be able to mow the yard! Yay!
