OK, so. Riding on the coattails of having the pretzel bread turn out correctly, I decided to make wheat bread because Tim wanted sandwich bread. It turned out as a half victory, wherein the dough rose, but it was a bit hard and didn't round out the way you think bread dough should. So it turned out more like pull part bread then actual sandwich bread. The second loaf turned out much better, after we added several tablespoons of water to soften it. The first loaf was used to try out some of the apple butter Mom brought back from Kentucky, and the second loaf turned out well enough to actually be sliced and used for sandwich making. But at least it made edible bread this time! I think I need to invest in a beginning baker's bread making book of some kind so I can learn all the tricks that bread recipe writers assume everyone knows. But we're getting better at it!
It looks good and the home made apple buttermakes it even better.
