Car Update

What a week, eh?

The Mercedes' insurance company is investigating the claim that the car was stolen before it was crashed into our vehicles. They called earlier this week and gave us their estimate for what it's worth, but that only means something if the owner of the Mercedes turns out to be liable for the damage. Our insurance company declared the Focus totaled based on the information given to them by the tow company, then sent out their own investigator who evaluated the Focus on Thursday. We're still waiting for their report and numbers from our insurance company. Hopefully we'll hear this week. It sounds like they're going to pay us out, then obtain reimbursement from the Mercedes' insurance company if it turns out the car wasn't stolen.
When I last talked to Pam, it sounded like their insurance company refused to do anything until the insurance company for the Mercedes completes their investigation. So the truck is back in their driveway so its not accruing storage fees at the tow lot and the Pilot is at the shop, waiting.

So we went car shopping yesterday. We drove a 2012 Kia Forte, 2011 Chevy Impala, 2007 Hyundai Sonata, and 2011 Hyundai Elantra. We crossed the Elantra off the list because it was a rough drive. I actually test drove one when I was shopping for the Focus, and didn't like it then, either. We looked at a few others, but got burnt out and headed home.
This morning, after getting a good night's sleep and doing some research, we decided we liked the Forte the best. We crossed the Impala off the list because, while it was a nice drive, the low MPG rating and strange interior were turn-offs. And we crossed off the Sonata because it was older and had fewer features than we could find on other cars in that price range. So we found a few cars comparable to the Forte we drove yesterday at a lot closer to us. We're going to check them out first thing in the morning and hopefully drive one home, even though we don't have a check from the insurance company yet. We'd like to be driving around in our own car, and we don't want to be waiting another week or more :-x
