Frankenstorm!

Well, it's here. In all of it's rainy, windy glory. But we're ready. And we're doing okay so far. I don't think the sump pump has had to come on once yet, and there's no water in the french drain in the basement. It's been raining all day, so the creek is moving, but not looking too wide behind our house yet. The retention basin only has a puddle in it, and the road outside our house doesn't look any worse than it does during any other rain storm.

Drinking water set aside--all of our pitchers, mugs, and water bottles are full, just in case of a power outage or  a warning to boil all our water is issued.

Something we didn't have last year--galoshes. We sloshed around the yard and the flooded basement barefoot. But it was a lot warmer then. We both have a pair of these now. Except Tim's don't have purple plaid on them:P

Evelyn has been pretty good today. She took two good naps and has been entranced by the trees waving in the wind.

The view from the back door--all our outdoor furniture is safe in the shed or the garage.

View from the front door. Not looking too bad. Wet and windy, but no damage yet.

The view from the side door in the garage. The trees are blurry because they're moving, but otherwise the retention basin is looking good.

Future weather-person;)
Our power flicked off briefly this morning, but came back on right away and hasn't gone off since. It has "wavered" (lights dimmed, but didn't go out) a couple of times since the wind picked up around 2 or 3. If the wind gets too ridiculous, we'll just hunker down in the library for the night. The hardest wind we have had so far has gusted at 43 mph.

I am a little distraught about the state of Wildwood in New Jersey. The storm came ashore just south of there, and the whole town is flooding. Here's the Wawa we stop at for lunch on our way to the beach every summer...This is on the west side of the island.

We're not going to go outside to inspect the yard until the wind has died down tomorrow afternoon. I'll post some more pictures then if there's anything interesting to report. But so far (knock on wood) this is tamer than tropical storm Lee, which decided central PA and MD was a nice place to hunker down and stay for awhile last September:P Hopefully Sandy is out of our hair soon.
