Couch to 5K

So, having successfully made it back to my pre-baby weight (which, lets face it, I wasn't totally happy with pre-baby), I've decided to really get down to work on getting to a healthier weight. I'm horrible at self-motivation in this department. I own several workout DVDs, most of which I've only done a handful of times. Also, it's hard to jump around a living room when you're concerned about whacking a hand on the ceiling fan or tromping on a small child. I didn't want to shell out money for a gym membership or a Y membership, since finding the time to get both Evelyn and myself ready to go somewhere, then actually driving there and relying on strangers to watch my kid while I schlep on a treadmill isn't exactly an appealing idea.
So I did some research on the interwebs and found the Couch to 5K program. I had heard of it many times, but had never read up on it. Basically, it's a beginner's running program that eases you into running a 5K race over the course of several weeks. You run 3 days a week (Hey! Tim works from home three days a week!) for about a half an hour (I can run around the neighborhood and never be more than a few minutes away!), alternating jogging/running and walking for increasingly long periods of time.

So I started this back in September. And I did well for the first two weeks. Then the week of Dan and Em's wedding, I got zero running time in. And then, last week, I only got two runs in because Evelyn had a doctor's appointment on Friday and it threw off our whole day. But I am trying. And the running is getting easier. I don't need weights, just my iPod and myself. My neighborhood is hilly, so it's a better workout than using my elliptical (although the elliptical will get some love over the winter).

What I need from all you wonderful people is to ask me how my running is going. I run alone, during Evelyn's morning nap, on the days Tim works from home. So I need some people to keep me honest. When you see me, ask me how the 5K program is going. And don't let me brush you off with a short answer:P Give me a guilt trip if I say I'm lagging behind. Tell me my excuses aren't good enough. Remind me that this is for my health and for my own self-confidence. Don't let me quit :)

I'm going to start a weekly post schedule here, as well. I need to be better about keeping up with this page, because I know there are people who check it and are disappointed when I haven't gotten around to posting anything new. And I need a place to record all of the productive things that I do. And I know you all love seeing baby pictures;) So look for a Crafty Monday, Wordless Wednesday, and C25K Friday posts every week, interspersed with posts and pictures of things we do as a family:)

Here we go!

  1. I will babysit while you run a 5K. It is good exercise and good for your mood too. They say that you will feel more motivated once you have done it for a month or so.
