Due Date

This past Tuesday was our due date. And I have to admit that I'm a little glad I missed out on the awkward, uncomfortable last month of pregnancy. I didn't have to deal with too much back pain, insomnia, or discomfort (if you don't count spending 18 days in a hospital bed).

We spent the day lounging around the house. Evelyn was especially fussy and did not let me nap.

She was very gassy and generally cranky. She wouldn't go 2 seconds without a pacifier and, even when she was sleeping, she was constantly grunting and wiggling around. And for two days, she was basically inconsolable. None of us got very much sleep and Tim actually had to take a half-day on Wednesday so I could get some sleep, since I'd been awake for over 36 hours with only a 1 hour nap. So we put in a call to the RN at the pediatrician's office. And once I described all of Evelyn's symptoms, she made us an appointment to see the pediatrician to talk about reflux or possible lactose intolerance.
So yesterday morning, we packed her into her carseat and had her seen by the doctor. They took her weight (5lbs 12oz), checked her temperature (normal), looked at her ears and nose, then listened to her heart, lungs, and belly. The doctor listened to all of our concerns, then gave us a prescription for zantac drops. Once we gave her the first dose, she seemed better. She actually slept in between feedings, seemed more comfortable, and was spitting up less. And I got a nap!

Granted, I had to keep holding her or she wouldn't stay asleep, but it was a major improvement over the constant fussing and screaming fits we'd been dealing with all week:-x She did well last night--I got a couple of hours of sleep intermittently, and this morning she's back to tolerating being wrapped up and put down in the bassinet as long as I keep the vibration on:)

But, of course, Mommy is still her favorite place for a nap:)
