Today we are 28 weeks along!!
This week, Bean weighs about 2.25 lbs and is roughly 14.8 inches long from head to heel (about the size of a Chinese cabbage). She can open and close her eyes, which now have lashes. With her eyesight now developing, she may be able to see any light that filters in. She's also continuing to build neurons in her brain and add fat to her body in preparation for the outside world.
I went in this morning for my 28 week appointment at the doctor's office. Everything, as usual, looked good, with the exception of my blood pressure (which has been great until now). They like it to be below 140/90, and mine was 134/92 at the beginning of the appointment and 132/98 at the end. So they gave me a pamphlet on preeclampsia and sent me to labor and delivery for monitoring. Which, of course, did not help my blood pressure. I had a nice nurse named Jeff who had sleeve tattoos and told me he was afraid of needles. They hooked me up to a fetal heart monitor, a contraction monitor, and a blood pressure cuff that went off every 15 minutes. And I stayed that way for 3 hours. At one point they drew blood to send to the lab and told me I'd have to wait til the results came back to know how long I'd need to stay. Mom came and sat with me since Tim was at work today. And eventually they sent me home because they couldn't find anything wrong, outside of the high blood pressure. So I have orders to 'take it easy' and drink lots of water. And Mom told me to watch my sodium intake more.
They said that Bean looks great. Her heartrate stayed right within the normal range the entire time, I wasn't having any contractions (not even braxton-hicks) and they found nothing abnormal about my labs. Bean was kicking the monitors and twisting and turning and overall a little upset with the intrusion that was disturbing her normal nap hours:P And since my blood pressure went down, but is still borderline, they want me to come back tomorrow evening to check in, and be seen by the regular doctor again next week. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. No one seemed overly concerned, and hopefully it turns out to be nothing, since everything else looked good.
Whew. I've had my excitement for this month:-x
