Hurricane Irene and Elizabeth's Bridal Shower

So apparently Elizabeth is just as lucky as I am with having major events on days when other exciting things are happening. (We got married during a tropical storm, moved during a blizzard, etc; She had a bridal shower during a hurricane and is getting married a day after the next time Harold Camping has predicted the world to end).
On Friday, we packed up the truck and took another load of stuff to the house. It only rained while we were trying to figure out the tarp...the rest of the ride was totally dry:P Saturday morning, Mom and I drove down to Baltimore for Liz's bridal shower, which was a pretty good time:) She got some pretty embarrassing gifts, which are always fun to unwrap in front of your entire family and future in-laws:P

Favorite reaction to a gift...hehe:P Look how high her eyebrows go!
I think Pam did a nice job with the bows:P
Mom dropped me back off at the house just as the rain was starting to fall in Elizabethtown, and we weathered the storm at the house. Tim had gotten a converter box and antenna, so we had access to local news/weather and watched Robocop 2 AND 3 while fixing things and putting away stuff we'd brought with us. We stayed up pretty late playing Skip-Bo and finally went to bed around 1am.
When we got up in the morning, we had no power. We put on shoes and sweatshirts and walked around the property to check for damage. We ran into a neighbor who had been walking her dog around the neighborhood and she told us only one house had any significant debris on the ground, and no one appeared to suffer any noticeable damage. There were just a lot of small branches and leaves everywhere.

The view up the hill from us. Some small debris in the road.

Trees behind the retention pond. They were like that before...just with more leaves.

Small puddle in the pond that was still draining just fine.

Some beat-up foliage near the edge of the woods.

Oh no! A branch fell near the deck!
So yes...we didn't notice any damage and the roof looked fine. No missing siding or anything. No leaks and no stray farm creatures grazing in our yard :P And by the time our damage assessment was done, we had our power back. We did notice some bent/broken corn in the fields on our way back to Philly. Part of route 1 going through Granite Run was closed and we saw some downed trees, but no major damage to this area, either. But Irene also didn't appear to make land-fall in Del-Mar-Va like they had thought she would, so it wasn't as bad as predicted. I know there were a lot of tornado warnings, but nothing reported. There were a lot of people without power, but otherwise I think the damage is pretty superficial. But I also haven't watched the news since we got back.
Now we're just working on plans for this weekend and packing up the last of our stuff. I have my last OB appointment here tomorrow afternoon, then I'll hopefully be transferred to Hershey. I'll update again tomorrow if there's anything to report on that...
But now I need to get to bed:P I'll leave with this picture of Jack observing our packing progress.
