So. We took the whole day off yesterday (well...Tim worked from home for a couple of hours in the morning) and went out to Mount Joy and met with a loan officer that came highly recommended by our realtor. He was very helpful, explained everything, answered all our questions, and got everything done for us quickly. I think we got a pretty good deal, compared to what others were offering.
After we were done, he recommended the coffee shop next door, so we went in and got some drinks and hung out in the AC for a bit. The shop was called Higher Grounds and they made the best strawberry smoothie I've had in awhile:P
Around 4, we met the inspector at the house and spent the next two hours or so following him around while he checked everything out. He told us the plumbing was the newest generation with copper fittings and would be fine. He found no signs of leaking and told us that, personally, the plumbing wouldn't keep him from buying the house. The worst thing that he found was that the deck was not properly bolted to the house. There were some other fairly minor issues, but nothing I don't think we can handle. All the major appliances are fairly new, the roof was just redone 2 years ago. So we're pretty pleased:) Tim actually whistled while we were on the way home, he felt so good:-x The mortgage stuff has been consuming us lately. Our apartment is in sorry need of a thorough cleaning:(
We also met with the realtor shortly to sign off on some other paperwork we couldn't do electronically.
The trip home was interesting. I was hoping it would cool down some...and it did. We turned off the AC and opened the windows...until we got stuck in traffic on I95...at 9:45 pm. Then we ended up taking the exit for the Commodore Barry Bridge for a short excursion to New Jersey, just to turn around, pay a $4 toll, go back over the bridge, and drive the rest of the way home on back streets.
We also had a little adventure with the fire alarm at about 1:40 this morning. I almost cried when I heard it. I did NOT want to get out of bed. But...we got up, put on shoes and glasses, and trudged outside with our fingers in our ears. The alarms in the hallways are SO LOUD that they make you feel nauseous. We had sat down in front of the building for maybe 2 minutes before the alarms shut off on all but the second floor. So we went back inside and headed back to bed. And 2 minutes later, all the alarms were going off again. We'd seen no smoke and no one was running around screaming "FIRE!!!", so I called the after-hours hotline for the apartment complex so they could send the maintenance guy to shut off the alarm because IT'S 2 IN THE MORNING. They connected me to the maintenance guy, who was actually right around the corner (so someone had beaten me to it), but he told me that the smoke detectors were broken and that someone was supposed to be coming to look at them this week. I told him what had happened, and suggested that they start with the detectors on the 2nd floor, since those didn't shut off with the rest.
He got it shut off very quickly, but I had trouble falling back to sleep because my ears were ringing and I could SWEAR that it was still going:P
So...that was the most exciting Wednesday we've had in quite awhile:P I will be very happy not to have to deal with annoying apartment fire alarms any more:-x
